Periodontal Therapy
Anthem Gum Disease Treatment
Periodontal (gum) disease affects more than 50% of US adults over the age of 30, and patients who suffer from this oral health condition are more likely to experience a number of chronic and systemic illnesses including diabetes and heart disease. The best way to ensure patients maintain their optimal level of oral health is by screening for the early indicators of gum disease as part of regular dental checkups and teeth cleanings at Anderson Dental. If gum disease is caught in the early stages, gingivitis, we are typically able to reverse the damage with more frequent professional cleanings and improved at home hygiene. Left untreated, gingivitis develops into the more severe periodontitis that necessitates advanced treatment options.
Scaling & Root Planning
In most cases, the first line of defense against periodontitis is a deep cleaning procedure using scaling and root planing. Scaling is the systematic removal of plaque, tartar, and damaged tissue from the mouth. Root planing is the smoothing of tooth roots in order to prevent future plaque and tartar buildup.
Soft Tissue Laser
Traditionally, scaling, root planing, removal of infected tissue, and other periodontal therapies were performed using a scalpel and sutures. However, this could be painful, take significant amounts of time to heal, and often lead to relapse of periodontal disease. Laser therapy causes less bleeding and discomfort during treatment and diminishes healing time following care making it the best solution to reduce bacteria and prevent re-infection.
Antibiotic Therapy
Bacteria produces plaque that can lead to gum disease, so reducing the amount of bacteria in patients’ mouths is one way to prevent periodontal disease. We utilize oral DNA testing to get a clear understanding of the amount and types of bacteria, and offer topical antibiotic treatment to decrease the number of harmful bacteria. We use both Arestin and Perio Protect antibiotic delivery systems.

My 78-year-old dad recently went to Anderson dental. He is a disabled vet with cognition issues and they treated him with the utmost respect. They did a thorough review of his mouth and gave him many options for replacing missing teeth He settled on a partial denture … More and they are very reasonably priced. He appreciates the care he received and will definitely be going back!
